Shared decision making in 2017: International accomplishments in policy, research and implementation

      10 years have passed since the first special issue “Shared Decision-Making in Diverse Health Care Systems” of the Journal for Evidence and Quality in Health Care, which has been published for the International Shared Decision Making (ISDM) Conference in Freiburg [

This first thematic issue on Shared Decision Making (SDM) brought together eight contributions from Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom, and the USA reporting the status of shared decision-making in the respective countries at that point in time. The second special issue five years later for ISDM in Maastricht 2011“Policy and practice developments in the implementation of shared decision-making: an international perspective” described the development of patient involvement activities and shared decision-making and what effects have been reached to implement these approaches into clinical practice [
